the better plan

one day last week i was feeling kind of blah.  the late hours i'd been keeping wiped me out. our school start was behind schedule. i was flustered and writing out lists of what needed to be done.  then my honey stopped home to grab some lunch and say hi to the kids, a rare treat for us. {he's a high school teacher and usually can't just leave school during the day.}  when he saw the state i was in, he kindly let me know that it looked like it was going to be the last nice day weather-wise. that a cold and rainy front was coming through. he suggested we head out to enjoy it and car-school on the way. well, i wasn't going pass that suggestion up!

we packed it up and headed to our favorite beach. not the closest beach to us. not the most popular beach along lake michigan. but it's the one we'll always choose above the rest. the natural beauty can't be beat. and on an october day, the solitude is heavenly. when it's just the waves and the wind in your ears, you can hear God whispering His love.

of course, part of the fun of going to the beach is the whippi-dip stop. the same place my parents always brought me. my kids now chuckle at the weather sign that always made me smile.
{p.s. i'm not a big ice cream fan but pumpkin flavor is fall-iscious!}

in my books, scrapping the plan and spending time soaking up the revelation of Him in His creation is never a bad idea.

“This is what one thirsts for, I realize, after the smallness of the day, of work, of details, of intimacy - even of communication,
one thirsts for
the magnitude and universality of a night full of stars,
pouring into one like a fresh tide."
