Hee-haw!There were still some things I wanted to share from our spring break trip. Yes, more than a month later. Yes, I'm certainly breaking some sort of blogging etiquette. But, who wouldn't want to see these colorful creatures?
It was the loveliest morning at the Little Zoo in Orange Beach, AL, which felt decidedly UN-zoo-ish with it's palm and shade trees, winding paths and roaming peacocks (which I didn't get photos of). You wouldn't believe the sound that comes out of a peacock! They scared us half to death. Just listen!
This Toucan Sam had an interesting call, too. Isn't he gorgeous? I couldn't get over his amazing beak. Can't you just imagine how adorable toucan chicks must be?! What an awesome Creator He is!
Earlier in the week, we had been SO blessed by our visit to a bird banding station which studies and bands migrating birds passing through from tropical locations. Wow...to see all these precious creations close-up was truly a gift...especially for the animal-loving boy.
We felt a bit out of place amongst all the serious, library-voiced, shade-hatted birders....our bedraggled and sun-burnt crew tromping up to the quiet of the tent. But the serious ones welcomed us novice ones and even gave us the privilege of releasing the banded birds back into the breezes.
We had wandered off to explore their netting system when two excited volunteers carrying a wriggling bag told us we wouldn't want to miss what had flown into the nets. A rare treat, they excitedly exclaimed. Following them back to the banding station, we weren't disappointed when they pulled this wondrous painted bunting out of the bag. Oh-take-my-breath-away-beautiful! I know that Patricia receives the gift of these quite regularly but we (shamefully) didn't even know they existed.
We "adopted" this beauty. Our family's very own painted bunting is flitting around the globe as I speak. :) (As you can see, it was H.O.T. that day!)
Thank you, Lord.
"Then I heard every creature
in heaven and on earth and
under the earth and on the sea,
and all that is in them, singing
"To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb, be praise and honor and glory and power
for ever and ever."
