book love

I adore a great picture book. One that marries amazing illustration with smart writing is a thing of wonder for me....oh, and the kids enjoy them, too. :)

Elise continues to bless me with her children's book recommendations. Some of our best discoveries have been through her. {{Thanks, Elise!}} Reading her book thoughts always leaves me itching to catch a peek of the insides, though...impatient for our next library trip. So, how about I give you sneak peeks inside some picture books we've enjoyed here? Sound good? I posted once before like this but maybe I'll make this a "standing feature", so to say.
As bird and nature guide lovers, we had been intending to read about John James Audubon for a while and were thrilled to find this one at our library. Today's book, The Boy Who Drew Birds: A Story of John James Audubon by Jacqueline Davies and illustrated by Melissa Sweet had us ooh-ing and ahh-ing from the cover page. Entirely lovely, the illustrations include collage-style snippets that had me swooning and staring long.  And the gentle tale of the inquisitive, pioneering, self-driven Audubon encouraged us to follow our passions and God-given affinities.  This one is stored away in my mental "to buy" file.  Enjoy!
