beautiful feet and a plea for help

*updated below
"Christ has no body on earth but yours,
no hands but yours,
no feet but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which
Christ's compassion for the world is to look out;
yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good;
and yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now."
~Saint Teresa of Avila

This just may be the most important blog post I ever write. The kids and my husband and I have prayed and we feel confident that God would have me share this with you.

Do I have your attention? Excellent!

Did you read my post yesterday in which I mentioned our friends, the Hovingh family, who are missionaries in Naivasha, Kenya.... here in the States right now on furlough (only until Dec. 27). They serve with the Heart of the Bride mission organization and are an integral part of an orphanage called the House of Hope in Naivasha. Well, when the Hovinghs came for dinner and I asked Lisa what the greatest needs of the orphanage were, she thoughtfully replied, "Teachers...discipleship... and shoes."

After they left that night, I lay in bed and couldn't stop thinking about those 25 beautiful children at the House of Hope and how they could be, that very day, running around without shoes or with shoes that are too small or too big or falling apart. I believe that Holy Spirit birthed a plan in me and I got out of bed and zipped an email out to the Hovinghs. "Would you have room to take back shoes with you if I were able to collect them and bring them to you before you go? Is that even feasible?" and on and on.

This evening I giddily opened an email from Jason Hovingh that offered a positive response to my God's plan! Heart racing, I knew I had to share it with you! To give you the chance to partner with me in the awesome opportunity He's given to care for the least of these.

Jason said that they would be able to take TWO suitcases filled each to the 50lb limit with shoes! He went on to share about the 13 boys and 12 girls that we could bless in this way. Also about the staff of the home, 6 women and 5 men, and the roughly 20 children who come to school at the House of Hope, too! And how he would need all of this brought to him before they leave.....within 10 DAYS!
*Update:  I just got the go ahead to pack THREE suitcases...3!  Let's pray that they'll be able to squish their stuff together and not have to pay the extra bag charge!

The photos in this post are of the actual kids at the House of Hope! The faces of children that you could bless with the gift of shoes, a gift of love!!! They were taken in July of this year and March of last year, so these are the same kids who would be trying on and finding just the perfect-fitting, comfy protection for their feet!

I laughed glee and my heart ached as I picked these photos out of a web album of a woman, Melissa Hatfield, who has traveled there, who has seen these faces, heard their laughter....

Here's the home....

Boldly I ask, (no need to blush or cringe, Megan) would you join me? Since the need is so urgent and time so very fleeting, shoes sent to me in the mail would not do. Thus, below is a donate button (PayPal or credit card). If you could send $5 or $10 or even $1 or $2, I would take that money and run wild around this town buying up 100 pounds worth of shoes (plus suitcases to put them in)! If there would be any overage (overage meaning too many pounds of shoes to send!) at all, that money would be directly donated to Heart of the Bride to provide whatever else is needed for the House of Hope.

I am SO EXCITED to see what God is going to do and to share the JOY with you!
*updated (I'll try to post photos soon of my shoe search progress!)
and I'm just going to leave the donation button open until the day I take the bags to the Hovinghs.

Please, please, please don't hesitate for one second to email me with any questions or concerns you may have!!! I'm always here to receive your words!

May I quietly ask one more thing from you? Would you consider sharing this with anyone who has Christ's heart for the orphan?

Words can't adequately express my thanks.

are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
“Your God reigns!”
